Religious Sisters of Charity, Mary Aikenhead. Servant of the poor, Donal S. Blake cfc, 2001, pp.102
Mary Aikenhead was a truly remarkable woman. Her life spanned the years 1787 – 1858, a crucial period in the history of Ireland, of Europe, and of the Catholic Church throughout the world. She thought with the Church, and for this reason, though she lived in Ireland, her eyes looked right across the globe as she showed by her deep concern for Australi, then regarded as the most distant outpost of European civilization. Today she would be equally concerned for the developing world.
