FIRST WEEK OF WORK
February 1-7, 2015 Activities
- Fr. Antony and Bro. Madu introduced us into the local stakeholders. We met with Fr. Natale and got directions from him regarding the work of the CTF in the Diocese of Makeni.
- Went to attend the reopening of the Holy Spirit Hospital, saw the laboratory, met with Dr. Vittorio and team and had initial discussions about what can be done. The HSH has remained close to patient admission.
- Went to meet Msgr. John D. Tarawali, the trusted person in the Diocese, together with Dr. Natalio and had some leveling off with him regarding the CTF presence and project. Fr. Antony and Bro. Madhu were present.
- Went to visit the Cluny Sisters and looked around their clinic. Had initial discussions about teaming up with them for the psychosocial support component for Ebola survivors.
- Went with Fr. Natalio to Rokel Bank to open and account. Now there is a bank account of the Camillian Task Force in the Diocese of Makeni.
- Gathered stakeholders together, attended by Msgr. John D. Tarawali, Dr. Vittorio, Dr. Carla, Sr. Phelomena, Sr. Mary Sweeney, Fr. Paul and Dr. Pina Garau of Dokita. Explanations were done regarding directions of the project in a collaborative manner.
- Met and discussed with Dr. Sue Cutter, a nurse and PhD Anthropologist from the UK working with the University of Makeni for technical advice.
- Fr. Sam went to have meeting with Sr. Mary Sweeney and Fr. Paul regarding the Psychosocial support project of the CTF.

Went with the Collaborative Team to Kamalo in Sandaloko for the blood extraction for serology research and at the same time field-testing of the Psychosocial Needs Assessment.
SECOND WEEK OF WORK

February 9, Monday | Bro. Luca and Dr. Pina went to see and meet with Dr. Turay at the Holy Spirit Hospital to discuss the concerns of Dokita regarding staffing and budget for human resources. They met with Msgr. John D. to discuss regarding the list of parishes to be included in the target communities of intervention for the CTF and Collaborators. Fr. Sam remained at the office to prepare the vouchers. Then Dr. Sue came to the CTF Transient Office at the Goretti Center. Bro. Luca, Dr. Sue, Fr. Sam and Dr. Pina went to the District Medical Office of the District of Bombali and met with the local health authorities. The Team discussed the directions of the CTF project and requested for an assignment of the Primary Health Units for capacity building. |
February 10 |
Bro. Luca, Fr. Sam and Dr. Pina went to the DMO’s office and met with Mr. Benjamin, the chief health specialist to get the list of the PHUs. The Team is now moving into the identification of the PHUs. The next move is to finalize the list of PHUs with Msgr. John D.
In the afternoon, Bro. Luca, Fr. Sam, Dr. Pina and Dr. Sue went to attend the WHO-led collaborative of NGOs operating in Makeni, map the coordinated interventions of these organizations, moving towards post-Ebola interventions. The discussions were about how the international groups could support healthcare services of the District of Bombali and Makeni area at all levels of care, starting from the hospitals, towards the PHUs. The CTF Team presented its own evolving strategy and organization of intervention, together with its partners. With the attendance of the CTF in this meeting, it is effectively in the network of international actors working on the ground in Makeni, namely the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the International Medical Corps, World Hope, Care International, World Food Programme and the United Nations.
In the afternoon, the CTF Team sat down with Dr. Sue to discuss the possibility of her being retained as technical advisor. As well as the thought of taking into the Team a local staff to coordinate locally the directions of the Psychosocial Support component of the CTF interventions on the ground.
Bro. Luca is drafting the Memorandum of Agreement between the Diocese and the District Medical Office. Fr. Sam has drawn up the Inclusion Criteria for the Training of Trainers in Psychosocial Intervention and the Phases of Intervention. |
