The Heritage

I’m Brother Carlo, I live in Sicily and I’m Sicilian. First I did my theological training then my nursing training. Since several years I have been working just in the Diocese of Acireale, where we did several activities for the poor people, for “the last ones”. Now I’m the Superior of the Community and the trainer of the formation house. During the day I work with disabled person because we have an istitute gathering 45 people in difficulty. At the moment I hold the role of administrative director, however there’s always a closeness, a work in progress in the service of these person in weakened conditions. But what I love more and to whom I gave my years of youth are two other works: the one, risen in 1993, is a foster home for AIDS sicks in the terminal phase, the other, instead, is the reception center for the homeless, always in the centre of Acireale, where nowadays we can offer a hot meal, shower service and change of underwear. I just can say that these works have been very significant to me and they have marked my vocational camillian youth.

Das Erbe

Ich bin Bruder Carlo, lebe in Sizilien und bin Sizilianer. Ich machte zuerst eine theologische und dann eine krankenpflegerische Ausbildung. Seit einigen Jahren lebe ich in der Diözese von Acireale, in der wir verschiedene Tätigkeiten für die Armen, für die „Letzten“, veranstalten. Derzeit bin ich der Obere der Gemeinschaft und der Verantwortliche für die Ausbildung im Ausbildungshaus. Während des Tages arbeite ich mit behinderten Menschen, da wir ein Institut haben, das zirka 45 Personen beherbergt, die sich in Schwierigkeiten befinden. Die Arbeit, die ich dort verrichte ist mehr oder weniger die eines Verwalters, aber sie bringt mich dennoch in die Nähe dieser Menschen und verbindet mich mit der Arbeit für diese bedürftige Bevölkerungsschichte. Aber noch näher stehen mir zwei weitere Werke, für die ich mich in meinen Anfangsjahren eingesetzt habe. Eines ist im Jahre 1993 entstanden. Es handelt sich um ein Wohnhaus für Aidskranke in ihren letzten Lebensabschnitt. Die andere Einrichtung ist ein Aufnahmezentrum für Wohnsitzlose, im Zentrum von Acireale. Jeden Tag wird ihnen ein warmes Mahl gereicht, sie können sich duschen und die Wäsche wechseln. Das waren Beschäftigungen, die mir viel bedeutet haben und die meine Anfangszeit der kamillianischen Berufung prägten.

La Herencia

Soy el hermano Carlo, vivo en Sicilia y soy siciliano. Hice allí mi formación teológica antes y después como enfermero y hace varios años estoy en la Diócesis de Acireale donde hicimos varias actividades para los pobres, los “últimos”. Ahora soy el Superior de la Comunidad y el formador de la casa de formación. Durante el día estoy con los discapacitados porque tenemos un instituto con aproximadamente 45 personas en dificultad. El papel que tengo es de director administrativo pero, sin embargo, siempre hay una proximidad, un trabajo para los más débiles. Pero lo que más tomo a pecho y al que le he dado mis años de juventud son otras dos obras, una, construida en 1993, que es un hogar para enfermos de SIDA en fase terminal, y el otro es el centro de recepción para personas sin hogar, siempre en Acireale, donde hoy en día se les da una comida caliente, servicio de ducha y cambio de ropa interior. Digamos que se trata de obras muy importantes que marcaron mi juventud vocacional camiliana.

A Herança

Sou o frei Carlo, moro na Sicília e sou siciliano. Fiz a minha formação, primeiro teológica e depois em enfermagem e, há vários anos, estou na diocese de Acireale onde fizemos várias atividades em favor dos pobres, dos “últimos”. Atualmente, sou o Superior da Comunidade e o formador da casa de formação. Durante o dia, acompanho pessoas com deficiência porque temos um instituto que acolhe cerca de 45 pessoas em dificuldade. A função que desempenho é um pouco a de diretor administrativo, no entanto, existe sempre uma aproximação, um trabalho direto com estes seres débeis. Contudo, o que mais tenho no coração e a que dediquei os meus anos de juventude são outras duas realizações: uma, surgida em 1993, é um lar para doentes de aids em fase terminal; outra, é o centro de acolhimento para os sem-teto, sempre no centro de Acireale, em que – atualmente – se proporciona uma refeição quente, banheiros e troca de lençóis. Digamos que estas foram obras muito significativas que marcaram a minha juventude vocacional camiliana.

Je suis Frère Carlo Mangione, je vis en Sicile et je suis sicilien. J’ai suivi ma formation d’abord théologique puis d’infirmier. Depuis plusieurs années, je me trouve dans le diocèse d’ Acireale, où nous avons mené diverses activités en faveur des pauvres, des « plus petits ». Actuellement, je suis le Supérieur de la Communauté, et le formateur de la maison de formation. Dans la journée, je suis avec ceux qui sont diversement en état car nous avons un institut qui accueille environ 45 personnes en difficulté. Le rôle que j’occupe est un peu celui de directeur administratif, et donc il y a toujours une proximité et de quoi travailler avec ces personnes fragilisées. Mais ce qui me tient le plus à cœur et ce à quoi j’ai donné mes années de jeunesse sont deux autres œuvres, l’une, édifiée en 1993, est une maison familiale pour malades du SIDA en phase terminale, et l’autre, au contraire, est un centre d’accueil pour personnes sans domicile fixe, également au centre d’Acireale, où chaque jour, on donne un repas chaud, un service de douches et de changement de linge. Disons que ce sont des œuvres très significatives qui ont un peu marqué ma jeunesse vocationnelle camillienne
