The Testimony of Sr. Candida in the Media of the Whole World

On 28 February last the Camillian sister, Candida Bellotti, celebrated her hundred and seventh birthday, confirming that she is the oldest woman religious in the world. Her story, told during the course of a press conference that was held in the generalate house of the Camillians, aroused the curiosity of journalists from all over Italy, and not only from Italy. The television news of Raidue, Telepace, Tv2000, Mediaset; the press agencies Ansa, Sir, Zenit and Meridiana; and the Sunday programmes ‘Tra cielo e terra’ of Radiouno and ‘Non un giorno qualsiasi’ of Radio Vaticana are only some members of the mass media that have broadcast radio and TV programmes on Sister Candida. And the echoes of her testimony are not yet over given that in the next few days there will be a section on her in the programme ‘La vita in diretta’ on Raiuno.

Newspapers and magazines have also given ample space to the news: both newspapers and magazines traditionally linked to the Catholic world such as Avvenire, Famiglia Cristiana and Credere and such secular newspapers as Il Corriere della Sera, Il Tempo and Il Messaggero. Some members of the foreign mass media have also reported on Sister Candida, being struck by her lucidity and above all by the joy with which at the age of 107 she bears witness to the Camillian message.

We of the Communications Office express great joy at having been able to communicate, through Sister Candida, the message of St. Camillus during the fourth centenary of his death.
