The Sanit 2013 took place this year as well at the prestigious Palazzo dei Congressi in EUR in Rome. The tenth edition of the International Health Forum, a point of encounter for all health-care workers, doctors, nurses and researchers, witnessed the active participation of the Order of the Ministers of the Sick.
To end the firt day of deliberations, which was dedicated to ethics and deontology in the nursing professions, was the paper by Fr. Germano Policante MI, a lecturer at the Camillianum. The paper by this Camillian, entitled, ‘Wounded Humanity and Healing Humanity Compared: the Image of the Wounded Healer’, referred to the example of the Saint Founder and emphasised the fundamental importance of empathy and overall care for the sick person by nurses and the whole of the health-care sector.
Within the framework of the same event was created hashtag on Twitter and Facebook #sonoinfermiere to give a voice to all the nurses who were present but also to all those people who follow the pages on St. Camillus and the fourth centenary on these social networks. The initiative was received with enthusiasm and participation at the Palazzo dei Congressi and on the Net. The nurses expressed – and this is something they can still do – their own ideas about the mission of nurses and their expectations, but they also stressed the difficult problems that characterise their work situations and contemporary employment in this field.
The paper by Fr. Policante and the initiative on the social networks commanded the attention of those taking part in the Forum and turned the floodlights onto the figure of this ‘Giant of Charity’ and the imminent opening of the jubilee year for the fourth centenary of his death.
