“The Letter”: a real opportunity to save our common home

Last February 2, 2023, on the occasion of World Day of Consecrated Life and in memory of the conversion of St. Camillus de Lellis, CADIS International organized the screening of the film “The Letter – a message for the Earth” at the St. Camillus de Lellis Parish in Rome.

In 2015, Pope Francis wrote Laudato Si’ (The Letter), an encyclical letter on the environmental crisis addressed to every single person in the world. A few years later, four voices that have remained unheard in global conversations have been invited to an unprecedented dialogue with the Pope. They are the voices of Senegal, the Amazon, India and Hawaii.

The documentary “The Letter” follows their journey to Rome and their extraordinary experiences in Rome and Assisi.

The Encyclical Laudato Si’ marks a radical turning point in history. For the first time, the Holy Father sat down with scientists and theologians to discuss the urgency of concretely addressing climate change and how to act.

Spreading and sharing the vision of this documentary is of paramount importance. The Earth is giving us a desperate cry that we can no longer ignore. The deadline has already passed and we cannot go any further.

This is why CADIS International, thanks to Fr. Sergio Palumbo’s hospitality at the parish Basilica of St. Camillus de Lellis, organized a public screening of the film on February 2, 2023..

More than 30 people attended the screening to reflect on the issues of our time: climate change, the need to act now to preserve our common home, the Earth. Among the faithful who were present in the hall was the Superior General of the Order of the Ministers of the Infirm (Camillians) Fr. Pedro Tramontin, along with the General Consulta and CADIS International’s President, Bro. José Ignacio Santaolalla. Their presence reinforced the message of the documentary: we can all take action.

Each of us can play our part in this global process of healing our common home. The film teaches us in the most authentic way possible, telling the truth. It is a call addressed to everyone’s conscience.

CADIS is committed to bringing the voice of the Earth to other cities in Italy, so that the cry of the people who suffer most from the consequences of climate change will not go unheard.

You, too, can do your part by signing in the Laudato Si’ Action Platform (LSAP), sharing the message of CADIS for the Earth, organizing a screening of the Letter in your community, or by donating to the ever-active CADIS Emergency Fund to support interventions in response to natural and other disasters.

We can be the protagonist of change, starting now!
