The Camillian Home for Disabled Children in Latkrabang

13413163_749596131850320_4849300493998260212_n800,000 disabled children live in Thailand but only a quarter of these children receive medical care or instruction. What happens to the other 600,000 children in need? To whom can they turn?

There is hope for these children at the Camillian Home; here children really feel at home. The Camillian Home is a non-profit charitable organisation which takes care of disabled children and children with grave illnesses, many of whom are orphans and abandoned, and offers them suitable treatment. Located in Latkrabang, on the outskirts of Bangkok, this house was founded in 2009 by Fr. Giovanni Contarin, a Camillian priest of the Province of Thailand.

The Camillian Home is a unique institution which was planned to help every kind of child to develop his or her physical, mental and social capacities, irrespective of his or her grave conditions, through the careful support of the staff, friendship, and the love of the people in the home.

She smiles and laughs every day!

In Thailand, disabled people have to face up to many challenges due not only to poverty but to also the prejudice of a society that discriminates against them and excludes them. The Camillian Home is one of the few institutions in Thailand that is dedicated to fostering the development of a society that is compassionate towards those in need.

Medical doctors and social workers of the Camillian Home strive to help disabled children in the local area with a programme of home visits. They offer them care, love, medical treatment and equipment.

The number of children who look for a stable place in the Camillian Home or help in a day centre has grown rapidly over the years and today more than ever before we need your support.

The Camillian Home receives most of its funds from individual and company donations. Indeed, only 4% of its funds come from the Thai government. Given the positive effect that a donation of only 500 baht can have, a sum equal to about 12.50 euros, when you give to the Camillian Home you are not only giving a plate of food or a place to stay: you are also truly giving these children the possibility of a better life.
