On Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at 3.00 p.m., at the Auditorium of the Antonianum, the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life will present the publication: “Economia a servizio del carisma e della missione” [The Economy at the service of the Charism and the Mission], edited by LEV.
In the last years many Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life had to face problems of an economic nature. Being aware of this situation, the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life has urged the Institutes to have a greater awareness regarding the importance of all that concerns the economy, and provided them with criteria and practical indications for the management of goods. It was in this context that two International Symposia about the management of good were held, and which eventually produced the Guidelines for the Management of Goods in the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life and the present document.
The text which will be presented is aimed to continue the reflection in the Church regarding the goods and their management: it points out certain aspects of the canonical norms about the temporal goods; it suggests several instruments for the planning needed for the management of their works; it urges the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life to revise their economic policies in fidelity to the charism so as to be «still, today, for the Church and for the world, the outposts of care for all of the poor and for all material, moral and spiritual poverty, and examples in overcoming every form of egoism through the logic of the Gospel which teaches us to trust in the Providence of God» (Francis, Message to the participants in the International Symposium on the management of ecclesial goods, with the title: “The management of the ecclesiastical goods of the Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, at the service of the humanum and of mission in the Church” March 8, 2014).
