St. Camillus Provincial Chapter was held at St. Camillus Provincialate, Bengaluru from 18th to 21st February 2017. The theme of the Chapter was “Evaluating the past, Reflection on our present and Strengthening our future”. There were Fifteen religious who participated in the Chapter as members participating by Right, twenty-one religious who were elected from the Community Local Chapters, One Temporary professed religious and Fr. Aristelo Miranda as representative of Fr. General. Apart from these, four representatives of Camillian Family (Lay Camillian Family) participated on the first day of the Chapter. Fr. Stephen Foster and Bro. John O’Brien from Anglo-Irish Province were present during the first session on the third day of the Chapter to present the amalgamation of proposal of Anglo-Irish province with St. Camillus Province, India.
During the first half day of the Chapter, the members were spiritually renewed through a Recollection preached by Rev. Fr. Xavier Manavath CMF, the Episcopal vicar for religious in the Archdiocese of Bengaluru. From the afternoon of the first day, Fr. Provincial and the in-charges of each secretariat presented about the status of the Province and each secretariat, respectively. Then general proposals and motions with regard to the structure of Provincial Statutes and particular proposals on the articles of the Provincial Statutes were discussed and voted. After that, general proposals and suggestions with regard to articles on Vocation Promotion, Formation, Ministry, Community and Spiritual life, Finance and Mission, Camillian Family, and Collaborative ministry were discussed and voted for. At the end of the discussions and voting on Provincial Statutes, all other general motions, proposals and suggestions were taken for discussion and voting.
The proposal of Anglo-Irish Province for amalgamation to become the delegation of St. Camillus Province was approved unanimously by the Chapter members, the terms and conditions of which will be finalized in the committee comprised of members from both the provinces.
Finally, STRATEGIC PLAN FOR 2030- Vision for Indian Province was presented in terms of Optimising inputs, Economic Self-Sufficiency and Asian Collaboration and European Partnership. In conclusion, a word about the atmosphere of this Chapter: Despite our very spirited exchanges on the Chapter floor, the atmosphere of this Chapter has been warm, fraternal, and free of virtually all politics. For me it was an intense and profound experience of fraternity. It ended on 21st February 2017.
