It was in 1988 when Germana Sommaruga, Founder of the Secular Institute Christ Hope, based on St. Camillus, by whose spirit she was deeply fascinated, crossed the threshold of the study of Fr. Carlo Vanzo, M.I., carrying with her the sheets that would constitute the first edition of ‘Messaggio di Misericordia’ (“Message of Mercy”).
The contemporary relevance of the teachings of Camillus de Lellis and his message of mercy were always at the centre of the activity and the writings of Germana Sommaruga, for whom was opened and is now underway a process for her beatification.
On the occasion of the jubilee year for the fourth centenary of the death of St. Camillus, the volume by Germana Sommaruga is proposed anew, a specific initiative of Fr. Vanzo, in a special edition, with new graphics, illustrated by the contribution of the photographic documentation from the archives of the review Missione Salute and updated with an account of the historical development of the Camillian Order over the last twenty-five years by Fr. Angelo Brusco, former Superior General of the Ministers of the Sick 1989-2001.
The new edition of this volume thus emerges today as a splendid compendium of the figure of the ‘Giant of Charity’ and his charism, the legacy that he bequeathed to his companions and the spread of the Order throughout the world.
