The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-moon will visit Ouagadougou (the capital city of Burkina Faso) on 2-3 March 2016. The purpose of his visit will be to express the support of the UN for the new political leadership of Burkina Faso and the successful political transition following the recent episodes of civil upheaval which forced a change in government.
During this visit, as one can read in his statement, the Secretary General of the United Nations will express to the new president of the nation and the people of Burkina Faso his appreciation of the ‘management of the political transition and the holding of successful peaceful and democratic elections’.
During the 48 hours of his visit, Ban Ki-moon will meet various figures, amongst whom the president of the country. On the suggestion of the government itself, he will also visit two new socio/health-care centres: the unit for nutritional rehabilitation, the ‘Children’s Medical Centre Shifra’, and the neonatology and paediatric unit for the admission and treatment of newborn children and children with HIV/AIDS at the hôpital Saint Camille.
