On Thursday 8 May Brother Leonardo Grasso, the Superior of the Camillian community of  Acireale and head of the St. Camillus Tent for AIDS Patients in Mangano (Giarre), was a guest on the programme ‘Life Live’ which was broadcast in the afternoon  by Raiuno

Interviewed by the journalist Franco Di Mare, Brother Leonardo told his story: from being a commercial agent with a business already underway and a great many worldly interests, at the age of fifty he decided to change his life radically and to become a Camillian. This was a journey that began with the hard test of the death of both his parents at six days’ distance, and continued with his activity as a volunteer at the side of AIDS patients during the period when this terrible disease was exploding in Italy as well.

Since then (and more than twenty years have passed) Brother Leonardo has worked at the side of the suffering and those in need, without regrets for a life rich in fun but which had left him empty and full of questions to which he did not manage to provide answers. As he himself observed during the programme, his parabola is very much like that of St. Camillus himself who after a dissolute life dedicated the whole of himself to helping other people.

At the end of his talk, Brother Leonardo did not fail to observe that this year the great Camillian family is celebrating the fourth centenary of the death of St. Camillus.

This valuable testimony, which was broadcast on the first national television channel in prime time, reached a very large number of Italian viewers and offered a positive message on the activities of the Camillians, as well as making the work of their founder known about.
