The press office and the communications office for the fourth centenary have called a press conference for 20 February to present to journalists Sister Candida Bellotti, a member of the Congregation of the Women Ministers of the Sick of St. Camillus, who will celebrate on that day her hundred and seventh birthday and is the oldest woman religious in the world.
Born in Quinziano (Verona), she currently lives in the mother house of her institute in Lucca. Sister Candida spent the whole of her life serving the sick as a professional nurse in various cities in Italy.
Lucid and self-sufficient, tomorrow she will take part in the morning Holy Mass celebrated by Pope Francis at Domus Santa Marta; immediately afterwards there will be a celebration for her by the Camillian religious of the general Curia of the Order at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Rome.
Sister Candida is an extraordinary example of the Camillian vocation, lived coherently and simply. Thanks to her we can convey the message of St. Camillus and his heritage of charitable love towards the sick during the fourth centenary of his death.
