Today, 5 May, the day was dedicated to a pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Divine Love. A little relaxation after the first intense days and in view of the demanding appointments of the next two weeks. But, above all, a pause of Marian spirituality in one of the most famous sanctuaries in Rome and the Centre of Italy.
The day began with a light but irksome rain which, however, ended with the splendour of the Roman countryside bathed in sunlight! In between, the visit to the sanctuary and above all moments of intense prayer and joyous fraternity! The former were animated by Msgr. Prosper Kontiebo who yesterday, 4 May, joined the members of the General Chapter to strengthen his feelings of union with the Order even though his episcopal ministry had led him elsewhere. In his homily he observed that a Camillian attains the home with the Father and the Son (Jn 14:23-29) by living the present in an active way and with his hands ‘dirtied’ by the charity with which he attends to his sick brother; visits those in prison; clothes the naked etc. (Mt 25). After Holy Mass all the members of the General Chapter went to a nearby hotel to share a meal in fraternity and joy.
Before going back to Ariccia, during a moment of prayer we entrusted the Order to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of the Ministers of the Sick. In our prayers all our brothers, and in particular those who are sick and going through a difficult period, were remembered: health, serenity and faithfulness being implored for them all. At the end of this moment of prayer, the vice-rector of the sanctuary thanked the members of the General Chapter for their visit and gave a touching testimony to his ties with the Camillians, who have been providing him with care for thirteen years!
